AET is pleased to announce that Dorothy Ungerleider is the featured speaker at the 2012 San Gabriel Valley Workshop.

Followed by: The conversation about Educational Therapy and the Organic Curriculum with Dorothy and a Panel of Experts
Saturday, March 24, 2012
Frostig School, Pasadena, CA
9:00 am – 1:30 pm

Just what do we DO in educational therapy?  What matters, what endures--and why?  This conversation about our work explores the meaning, range, and scope of our psychoeducational interventions.  The therapeutic outcomes of these interventions will be described through the lens of an “Organic Curriculum” as adapted to academic, social/emotional, and employment needs of particular clients.  Lenore Terr’s “magical moments of change” will be considered in an educational therapy context.  Come prepared for a dynamic interaction with some magical moments from your practice.
Participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the meaning and describe the implementation of psychoeducational interventions.
  2. Apply the principles of an “Organic Curriculum” to their own practices.
  3. Analyze the effectiveness of unconventional approaches in response to the client’s life events, including learning opportunities that arise from “magical moments of change.”
  4. Describe ways in which allied professionals collaborate with educational therapists.

Dorothy Ungerleider is the Founding President of AET. She is the author of Reading, Writing and Rage, Psychoeducational Perspectives, and her newest book, Educational Therapy in Action. In addition to her private educational therapy practice in Encino,California, she advises development of training programs at CSU Northridge. She has worked with delinquent youth and trained juvenile court judges on assessment of adjudicated youth.
Following the presentation, Dorothy Ungerleider along with a panel of Educational Therapists and Allied Professionals will continue the conversation about Educational Therapy and the Organic Curriculum.
