Associate ET membership is the first step on the pathway of AET's Professional membership track. There are a number of requirements that must be met to successfully complete your Associate membership application. This checklist will help you determine when you are ready to submit your application.
- Résumé: Please provide a current résumé. You may submit it as an attachment to an email to membership@aetonline.org, or you may mail a hard copy to AET.
- Reference Letters: Please provide the reference letter form to two people who know you in a professional capacity. You may fill in the top information with your own information for the convenience of the people making your references. You can send the reference letter form as an email attachment directly to the referrer, or you may provide them with a hard copy to fill out and return to the office. They may fill the Reference Letter form out and submit it to membership@aetonline.org as an email attachment or they may mail in a hard copy to AET.
- Service Hour Verification: Please have your direct service hour letter(s) verified by whomever can most appropriately confirm that you are representing accurately the hours you have worked. Principals, Parents of clients and Supervisors are all likely candidates for providing a verification signature. You can send the letter as an email attachment directly to the person verifying your hours, or you may provide them with a hard copy to fill out and return to the office. They may sign the letter and submit it to membership@aetonline.org as an email attachment or they may mail in a hard copy to AET, or they may return it to you by email or as a hard copy and you may submit it directly to AET. It is to your advantage as an applicant to provide as many verified direct service hours as you are able to, up to 1500 hours. The experience indicated by your résumé and the hours you submit has bearing on how many BCET supervised hours you will be assigned as an Associate member.
- Transcripts: You may submit copies or scans of OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. Unofficial transcripts can not be used to approved your membership. The only exception to this is when you are taking advantage of the early enrollment application plan for Student members and are still finishing your last semester. In which case unofficial transcripts may be submitted for the purpose of evaluation, pending your completion of coursework and submission of official transcripts to AET. Please make sure your transcripts are legible, some transcripts reproduce badly and are difficult to read. If your transcripts do not copy or scan cleanly please mail originals or order a set of originals sent from the issuing school.
- Academic Worksheet: Please fill out the academic worksheet so that every course requirement is identified clearly. Successfully showing that you have completed all of the coursework required by AET is the most critical part of the Associate application process. It is possible to become an Associate member without having taken all of the required classes, but extensive documentation of work experience and acquired field competency is required to be approved by the Flex Committee. The worksheet may be returned as an email attachment to membership@aetonline.org or mailed to AET.
- Application and Directory Information: Please fill out the online application or print out a hard copy and complete the three page packet and return it by mail to AET. The application packet includes information for your directory listing. The more complete your information is the better a directory listing you will have.
- Payment: Associate ET membership is $200.00 a year. For student members applying for Associate ET membership there is a one-time discount rate of $100.00 for your first year as an Associate member. There is also a $35.00 application fee. You may pay online, or by mailing a check to AET.
When you have all of the information for the Associate ET application you may submit it by whatever combination of online, email and snail mail is most efficient. When you have the option it is always preferred that you use online and email methods. When snail mailing documents please make sure they are legible, and that they are not stapled together. If you know that your reference letters will be coming by snail mail it is helpful and often speeds the process to provide the people making your referrals with stamped envelopes already addressed to AET. Often waiting on reference letter to arrive in office is what slows the application process.
When all of the documents have arrived in office they will be submitted to the Membership Committee. These are volunteers who carry a heavy caseload of applications to review in addition to maintaining busy lives with active practices of their own. Please be patient. Updates are released once a month on new and pending applicants and you will be notified by the office, by email, as to where your application is in the process at that time. If more than 6 weeks have passed since you were submitted to committee please contact us at membership@aetonline.org. Emails do not always arrive, spam blockers waylay some notifications and because of the volume of applications being handled sometimes lines of communication fail.
