Why Engage An AET Educational Therapist

There are very few university programs nationally that confer degrees in educational therapy nor is there yet state licensure in the US. For these reasons the Association of Educational Therapists has established educational standards and ethics that define the profession, safeguard the public, and inform you that the educational therapist you engage has the necessary training and skills that your child deserves. To help you understand what the three levels of professional membership designations in the Find an ET directory mean, here is a brief description. You can find detailed information about the requirements by clicking below or on the "Membership" dropdown on AET's main website.

All AET educational therapists

  • adhere to a code of ethics and
  • must complete at least ten hours of continuing education annually.

Associate Educational Therapists have met the stringent academic requirements in education, special education, and psychology requirements but have not yet completed a period of supervised practice.

Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P®) members have

  • met stringent academic requirements in education, special education, and psychology,
  • hold a master’s degree or higher in education or a related field, have documented at least 1500 hours of direct service delivery, and
  • have undergone supervision by a Board Certified Educational Therapist (BCET®).

AET Board Certified Educational Therapists (BCET®)  members

  • have been an ET/P® for at least one year,
  • are highly experienced having documented at least 1,000 additional hours of direct clinical service delivery, and
  • have successfully submitted an in-depth case study and
  • passed a rigorous ethical issues and best practices exam.

Always look for the registered marks BCET® and ET/P®!
